Seadragon para iPhone

Seadragon é a plataforma por trás das minhas tecnologias preferidas – Deep Zoom do Silverlight, Photosynth e até Windows 7 e Surface. Essa plataforma permite que você visualize imagens gigantescas (gigapixels) sem o mínimo esforço do seu computador. Agora o pessoal do Live Labs, o braço de pesquisa e desenvolvimento da Microsoft para tecnologias Web, lançou uma versão para celulares. Detalhe, a primeira versão é para iPhone e está disponível de graça na App Store do iPhone.

Para usar essa tecnologia, a maneira mais rápida é fazer um upload de suas fotos para o serviço do Photosynth. As fotos não precisam seguir as regras do Photosynth para recriar a figura 3D, pois estamos usando o Photosynth como um álbum virtual nesse caso. No Seadragon Mobile você fará um login e aparecerão os seus álbuns do Photosynth e você também pode adicionar as coleções de outros usuários do Photosynth.

Tem duas coisas que acho importantes nessa notícia. Primeiro, o Live Labs está realizando seu propósito de existência – inovação rápida e impactante para a Web. Segundo, mostra a cara da nova Microsoft, já que a primeira versão dessa tecnologia foi disponibilizada para o iPhone. Ah, outro detalhe, essa invenção surgiu do tempo livre que cada pesquisador do Live Labs tem para inventar coisas sem objetivos concretos.

Ben Vanik invited me over to Live Labs to see a hobby project he took on in his spare time running Seadragon on a mobile phone. Seadragon is the juice behind Photosynth and DeepZoom (If you need a refresher course on Seadragon, head on over to TED.)

You can browse several collections- the Library of Congress maps from the TED demo, a two-billion by two-billion pixel map of the world -but you can also load custom content via a RSS feed. If you want to take the easy way out just upload your massive images to Photosynth or PhotoZoom. Seadragon Mobile isn't a Photosynth viewer, per se. It shows all the photos in a synth in flat tiled form, allowing you to zoom in and out effortlessly. So in this instance you use Photosynth like a container.

Now for the part that may make your head asplode; this release is coming out for the iPhone first.

Vocês devem ter visto meu último post onde falei que um visualizador em Silverlight para Photosynth está no ar para testes. Bom, sendo curioso e tal decidi ver se eu conseguiria utilizar o visualizador Silverlight com os meus synths – e consegui! Até funciona para os synths já criados anteriormente.

Vamos aos passos:

Eu imagino que quando esse visualizador passar nossos testes de desempenho e estabilidade que ele aparecerá automaticamente para quem não ter o Photosynth instalado. É claro, essa experiência pelo visualizador em Silverlight é limitada comparado ao visualizador do Photosynth. Porém, ela permite que pessoas com Mac OSX possam usufruir um pouco dessa bela tecnologia que é o Photosynth, graças ao Silverlight!

Embora ainda seja experimental, o novo visualizador de Photosynth feito em Silverlight já promete. Para quem não conhece ainda o Photosynth, vejam o meu post explicando tudo sobre essa tecnologia imerssiva para fotografias. Já o Silverlight é nosso plug-in para Web que nos permite ter vídeos de alta qualidade e aplicações ricas, como essa do Photosynth.

O visualizador de Photosynth em Silverlight vai melhorar com o tempo, sobretudo quando sair a versão 3.0 do Silverlight que terá suporte nativo a 3D. Já que a versão atual não suporta 3D, o time do Photosynth utilizou uma técnica que basicamente recorta as imagens em triângulos para depois simular um efeito 3D. Para ver esses triângulos, aperte a tecla "T". No Photosynth normal a tecla "P" faz algo semelhante, pois revela a nuvem de pontos e esconde as fotos. O zoom nas fotos agora é puro Deep Zoom, do Silverlight 2.

Photosynth Comes To Live Maps

There’s a new feature now available on Live Maps: Photosynth! The Microsoft Live Labs technology, Photosynth, which launched publicly back in August, allows you take your photos and turn them into rich, 3-D experiences. Now, with the new Live Maps integration, you can explore the world in the very same way as you explored your own synthed photos.

As you navigate in a map or zoom in or out in a particular location in Live Maps, you can choose to display pushpins for each Photosynth available in that area. You then just click the “launch Photosynth viewer” link to dive in and start exploring those synths.

You can try this now in Seattle, in Cairo at the Sphinx, in Vatican city, or at the Leaning tower of Pisa, for example.

Photosynths are not shown by default in Live Maps, but are a part of the user-generated collections feature. Turning them on is easy, though - here’s how:

1) Search for for any location where synths may be available or manually drag your map there. Try “Paris,” for example.

2) Turn on Explore mode (Click Collections –> Explore collections). This turns on all the user-generated content, not just synths.

3) Filter to display just synths: At the top of the Explore panel, press the Photosynth button.

4) Now you’ll see just the synths display.

5) Enjoy!

Photosynth é a estrela da campanha de publicidade do filme “Anjos e Demônios”

O filme “Anjos e Demônios”, de Dan Brown o autor de “O Código Da Vinci”, estréia em maio de 2009, mas a campanha publicitária já começou. Nesse site do MSN há um teaser, uma primeira divulgação que mostra um pouco da história. “Anjos e Demônios” foi escrito antes de “O Código Da Vinci” e introduz o personagem de Robert Langdon, o protagonista interpretado por Tom Hanks no filme. O mais legal desse site é que ele conta com a ajuda do Photosynth. A campanha terá com um concurso chamado Path of Illumination (Caminho da Iluminação) onde os Internautas terão que encontrar pistas em diversas coleções de Photosynth que serão criadas a partir de locais do filme. Há um primeiro “synth” sensacional do Vaticano que você encontrará seguindo esse link e clicando na mão direita em “Open Photosynth”. Super recomendado!

Auf der Photokina in Köln habe ich mit Andre Mohr, UX Designer bei Microsoft Live Labs geredet. In diesem Video erklärt und zeigt er Photosynth, die neue kostenlose 3D-Foto-Visualisierungs-Service von Microsoft Live Labs. Photosynth nimmt eine Kollektion von digitalen Fotos von einem Objekt oder Ort und analysiert jedes Foto auf Ähnlichkeiten mit den anderen. Photosynth dann ermittelt, wo die Bilder aufgenommen wurden und stellt es die Umgebung weitgehend automatisch wieder her und nutzt diese als Basis für die Anzeige der Fotos. Innerhalb eines Synths kann man auch sich virtuell nach oben oder unten sowie nach links oder rechts bewegen, Details vergrößern oder sich übersichtlich die Gesamtansicht anzeigen lassen. Photosynth + Windows Live Photo Gallery

Martha Rotter recently discovered a nifty feature in the new version of Windows Live Photo Gallery. Apparently, if you have the Photosynth software installed on your PC, the first option under the new “Extras” menu in Photo Gallery will be “Create a Photosynth.” Once selected, you can then just navigate through your photo collections within Photo Gallery to locate and select the photos you want to be a part of the synth. After you have all the photos selected, you can just create a photosynth from right there in Photo Gallery. That’s some nice integration!

If you haven’t tried Photosynth yet, give it a shot! This amazing application lets you stitch your pics together to create panoramic images like you wouldn’t believe. Laura has a great instructional video to help you get started: check it out.

Wie ich letzte Woche geschrieben habe, hat Microsoft Live Labs eine neue Version von Photosynth gelauncht. Photosynth ist ein kostenloser Service, um Fotos in einem 3D-Umfeld zu erleben und auszutauschen.

Um selbst ein Synth (3D-Model mit Fotos) zu bauen, braucht Ihr eine Kollektion von Fotos von einem Objekt oder einem Ort – am besten 20-300 Fotos mit Überlappung und verschieden Blickwinkel. Mit der Hilfe des Photosynth-Tools könnt Ihr dann ein 3D-Model aus den Fotos erstellen.

Die besten Synths beginnen mit den richtigen Fotos. Um besser zu verstehen wie man ein Synth selbst baut, habe ich das „Photosynth – How To“-Video auf Deutsch synchronisiert. Schau das Video an, um zu lernen, wie man Fotos macht, um ein gutes Synth zu bauen.

Es gibt auch eine Anleitung zur Photosynth-Fotografie. Diese Anleitung zeigt, welche Art von Fotos für Photosynth besonders geeignet ist. Die Anleitung hilft Ihr zu vermeiden, mehrere hundert Fotos zu machen und dann später festzustellen, dass Photosynth sie nicht so zusammenstellt, wie erwartet. How To Use Photosynth In 4 Easy Steps

So now that you’ve heard the big news about Photosynth, you’re probably dying to get started with your first synth. Well, get your camera ready, because here’s all you need to know as to how to use this new technology

STEP 1: TAKE PICTURES

When you’re creating your first synth, remember the rule of “3” – each part of the scene you shoot should appear in at least 3 separate photos from different locations. Try for at least 50% overlap when taking the pictures. Take a panamora shot and then move around – the wider the shot, the better.

STEP 2: EDITS

Photographers usually want to do all kinds of tweaking to pics, but with Photosnyth, there are things you don’t want to do, such as the following:

don’t crop
don’t do any geometric transformations like flips and perspective transforms
don’t use artistic filters (de-noise may be safe, though)
don’t use watermarks (Photosynth provides something for this itself)

You can, however, adjust color and contrast without any worries.

STEP 3: SYNTH IT

If you haven’t already, download the free software from http://photosynth.com. The software works alongside the web site, also a free service. From the Photosynth site, click on “Create” and pick the pictures you want to use. Give your creation a name and click on “Synth.” Photosynth automatically creates and uploads your synth which can then be accessed from any XP or Vista PC.

STEP 4: SHARE IT

Your finished synth can be embedded on web sites, blogs, social networks, or any other page where HTML can be edited. You can see other people’s synths that they’ve created and leave comments, too.

By now most of you have probably heard of Photosynth. The cool new technology from Microsoft that allows you to explore collections of full resolution photos by relationship in an amazing, interactive 3D space.

From today (9PM PST) Photosynth is being released to the public which means anyone with access to a digital camera, PC and internet connection can create their own Photosynth collections. Just visit photosynth.net, download the app (approx 8MB) and start synthing.

To coincide with the release of Photosynth to the masses we thought it might be fun to sit down with 1/5th of the development team behind the technology to learn some more about how Photosynth works and how best to go about creating collections of photos specifically for synthing.

Joining me for this episode of ShutterSpeed is Live Labs and Photosynth Architect Blaise Aguera y Arcas (who you might recognize from this infamous TED presentation), Scientist Drew Steedley and Program Manager Scott Fynn.

Heute Morgen ist die neue Version von Photosynth gelauncht worden. Photosynth ist einer fantastischen neuen Art, Fotos in einem 3D-Umfeld auszutauschen und zu erleben. Die Webseite findet Ihr unter: http://photosynth.com

Photosynth ist eine kostenlose Service von Microsoft Live Labs. Photosynth nimmt eine Kollektion von Fotos von einem Objekt oder Ort und analysiert jedes Foto auf Ähnlichkeiten mit den anderen. Die Applikation dann ermittelt, wo das Bild aufgenommen wurde und baut eine 3D-Model raus. Die Fotos werden im richtigen Platz auf der 3D-Model platziert und Du hast die Möglichkeit durch das 3D-Model zu bewegen. Es ist ein echt cooles Erlebnis!

Mit dieser neuen Version von Photosynth hat man jetzt die Chance selbst Synths zu erstellen. Das Photosynth-Tool um Synths zu erstellen ist einfach zu bedienen aber um ein gutes Synth zu bauen braucht man viele Fotos und ein bisschen Übung. Ich benutze Photosynth seit ein paar Wochen und ich muss sagen, dass auch die Übung mit Photosynth Spaß macht. In den nächsten Tagen werde ich ein Video veröffentlichen, wie man gute Synths erstellt.

Ich habe inzwischen viele Synths gebaut aber meine Lieblings-Synths sind von Angkor Wat und Marienplatz. Vor ein paar Wochen war ich im Urlaub im Kambodscha und ich habe viele Fotos von Angkor Wat gemacht. Vor ein paar Tage habe ich ein sehr schönes Synth von Marienplatz im München erstellt. Um die Synths anzuschauen, klicke auf der Link unten und installiere das Photosynth-Plugin. Photosynth funktioniert momentan nur auf Windows aber eine Mac Version sollte bald verfügbar sein. Als Browser sollte Ihr Internet Explorer 7, FireFox 2, oder FireFox 3 haben.

Vídeo - A Microsoft Live Labs lança o Photosynth

O Live Labs é o braço da Microsoft Research que faz pesquisa e desenvolvimento especificamente para a Internet. Do pessoal do Live Labs já saiu, por exemplo, o Deep Zoom, um componente de destaque do Silverlight 2.0. Agora, mais uma novidade do pessoal do Live Labs – o Photosynth está aberto para o uso de todos.

Para quem não conhece, o Photosynth é uma forma completamente inovadora de vivenciar as suas fotos digitais. Em vez de ver fotos individuais tiradas no mesmo local, o Photosynth consegue encaixar todas as fotos no seu lugar correto num espaço tridimensional. A tecnologia analisa as suas fotos, identifica os pontos de sobreposição e utiliza essa informação para reconstruir um espaço gráfico 3D e nele encaixar cada foto em seu devido lugar. O usuário não precisa fazer nada além de alimentar as suas fotos – o Photosynth cuida de tudo.

Existem algumas regras básicas para criar um bom synth, por isso recomendo ver o vídeo legendado desse post que mostra os passos iniciais. Depois, baixe o guia em português que entra em maiores detalhes com dicas importantes e assuntos para fotógrafos avançados.

O site do Photosynth utiliza Live ID para autenticação. Se você tem Hotmail ou usa o Windows Live Messenger, é o mesmo login e senha desses serviços. Lá, você terá direito a 20GB de espaço para armazenar os seus synths. Para usar o Photosynth é preciso instalar um plug-in de 8MB que roda em Internet Explorer 6 e 7 ou Firefox 2 e 3 para Windows XP e Windows Vista. O site permite comentários dos usuários, compartilhamento via link direto para o synth e, o mais bacana, você pode embed, ou incorporar, o synth no seu próprio site via iframe. É só copiar e colar o código.

Para o lançamento, estamos com vários parceiros produzindo conteúdo interessante. National Geographic, o governo federal americano, o governo nacional da Turquia, NASCAR, entre outros. Aqui no Brasil a Microsoft trabalhou com a agência Megaphoto e seu fotógrafo Rodrigo Acedo para testar a tecnologia. Eles produziram uns synths bem bacanas da Catedral da Sé e do Monumento às Bandeiras.

Acho que todos vão achar o Photosynth bacana. Não se esqueçam de colocar tags nas suas fotos, e coloquem a tag Brasil para que o mundo possa encontrar nosso conteúdo bem fácil. Mais um detalhe, você pode marcar o geoposicionamento dos seus synths. Depois do synth aparecer no site, entre nele para editá-lo e lá aparecerá um ícone de um globo. Clique nele para ver o Virtual Earth e apontar no mapa o local de seu synth.

Valokuvia on voinut jakaa verkossa jo pitkään, mutta mitä jos ladatessasi kaikki kuvat yhteen palveluun, siitä syntyisikin kolmiuloitteinen maailma, jossa näet kaikki kuvat oikeilla paikoillaan ja niiden välillä voi siirtyä käsittämättömän hienosti. Sitä on photosynth.

Täytyy siis kuvata paljon tavallisia kuvia, ladata ne palveluun ja kokea kuvat aivan uudella tavalla.

New 3D Photo Viewer From Microsoft Research

If you thought Photosynth was cool, you haven’t seen anything yet! On his blog, Long Zheng shares with us an amazing video out of Microsoft Research that focuses on a new immersive 3D technology for manipulating digital photos. The technology, which appears to be an advancement of an older technology called Photo Tourism, allows for browsing through photo collections in 3D. In the video, the photos used to demonstrate the technology in action are taken from the flickr website. However, the technology could be used with a collection of images out of your own personal photo collection, too.

Like Photosynth, photos of the same object or location are stitched together, but this new technology goes beyond that to allow for a 3D model of the scene through seamless transitions between the photos as you move through them. In addition, the system also corrects the color balance and stabilizes the transitions as you zoom, rotate, and move through the images. With this system, you can navigate through the photos, zoom in and out, select different orbits, view both daytime or nighttime photos, and so much more. This technology doesn’t seem to have a real name yet – both the video and the website are simply titled “Finding Paths through the World’s Photos.”

This is the sort of thing that’s kind of hard to explain – it has to be seen to be believed. Check it out:

A Microsoft Research não tem o hábito de produzir produtos finais. As pesquisas que resultam nos softwares e serviços desenvolvidos pela MSR normalmente são embutidas em outros softwares da Microsoft, muitas vezes dentro do próprio sistema operacional Windows. Um exemplo recente é o Deep Zoom, que é um componente do Silverlight 2. O Deep Zoom foi desenvolvido pelo pessoal da Live Labs que é um braço da MSR para pesquisa e desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias para a Web.

Um evento onde sempre aparecem novidades da MSR é o SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques), um evento anual voltado a inovações em gráficos e técnicas de interação. Nesse mesmo evento foram apresentados o Sea Dragon e o Photosynth, além de outros projetos da MSR. Esse ano o projeto da MSR que está chamando atenção é o Unwrap Mosaics. Para simplificar a explicação, o Unwrap Mosaics é um software de edição de vídeo que pega uma imagem 3D e abre ela em um plano 2D para facilitar a edição. Imagine um rosto que foi captado em 3D a qual você quer adicionar uma barba e bigode. Em vez de ter que ficar girando o rosto 3D na ferramenta de edição, o Unwrap Mosaics permite que você exponha o rosto inteiro numa superfície plana (2D) para poder editar a vontade, como se fosse uma foto normal. Após terminar a edição, ele retorna o vídeo a sua representação original em 3D com as novas edições. É mais fácil entender se você assistir o vídeo ao lado. Recomendo ver o vídeo em alta qualidade do Unwrap Mosaics - eles editaram o pescoço de uma girafa para subir e descer, ficou muito engraçado.

Sovellus ottaa ison kokoelman valokuvia, analysoi niiden yhteläisyydet ja luo niistä kolmiuloitteisen maailman jossa niitä voidaan tarkastella.

Photosynth:llä voi kulkea tai lentää kuvista toiseen ja katsoa kuvia aivan uusista kulmista. Kuvia voidaan zoomata saumattomasti selaimella vaikka kuvat olisivatkin korkearesoluutio kuvia - on ne sitten mega- tai gigapikselien kokoisia. Tekniikalla voidaan nähdä, mistä eri kuvat on otettu ja miten ne sijoittuvat toisiinsa. Photosynth -kokemukseen tarvitaan siis tavallisia kuvia. Ne on voinut ottaa sama tai eri henkilö ja niissä voi olla sekaisin eri kameroilla, resoluutioilla ja ajankohtina otettuja kuvia.

Jokainen piste kuvaa kuvan tunnistepistettä, jonka avulla kuvat liitetään toisiinsa. Nämä yhtäläisyydet tunnistetaan automaattisesti, joten käsityötä ei tunnistuksessa tarvita ollenkaan. Kuvat sijoitetaan 3D malliin, jolloin kuvista voidaan helposti siirtyä toisiin.

Vertaamaalla useampaa kuvaa toisiinsa, saadaan rakennettua todentuntuinen ympäristö, jolloin kuvauspaikka voidaan kokea täysin uudella tavalla. Kuvat sijoittuvat lomittain ja niiden liitokset tehdään uskomattoman joustavasti toisiinsa.

Photosynth hyödyntää Seadragon tekniikan häkellyttävää pehmeää renderöintiä ja zoomaus toiminnallisuuksia.

Vom 5. – 8. Mai fand in Stuttgart die 13. fmx Konferenz statt – Europas größte Konferenz zum Thema Animationen, Effekte, Games und Digital Media – veranstaltet von der Filmakademie Baden Württemberg. Microsoft war zum ersten Mal als einer der Hauptsponsoren mit einem großen Stand und einer Xbox-Lounge vertreten, an der sich die Besucher mit einer Tüte Popcorn bei Guitar Hero und anderen Xbox-Spielen vom Konferenzstress erholen konnten. Am Stand präsentierte Microsoft dem interessierten Publikum aus der Games-, Medien- und Designbranche neue Technologien wie Microsoft Silverlight, Microsoft Popfly und Microsoft Live Labs Photosynth.

Ich war dabei und habe vor Ort mit Steffen Ritter, Microsoft Designer Marketing Manager über alles rund um die fmx und natürlich auch über sein Lieblings-Thema Silverlight gesprochen. Auch zu sehen in diesem Video, ein paar coole Silverlight Demos, vorgestellt von Oliver Scheer, Microsoft Developer Evangelist.

Photosynth Solves Crimes the Cool Way

If like many of us, you can't get enough Photosynth in your daily digital diet, make sure you check out CSI: NY tonight because Microsoft's Photosynth is going to make an appearance. The story is that a counselor is murdered at a prom and all the camera phone photos are fed into Photosynth where a 3D world is constructed for investigators to wander through as they solve the mystery.

Apparently CSI characters are going to be showing up with Tablet PCs and UMPCs in an effort to go paperless. Now, the sidebar on the USA Today story is a little confusing. It mentions HD View as being "still in the labs". In fact, you can play with HD View today. And don't forget PhotoZoom, which already lets you experience large pictures easily.

If you're into digital photography, I just discovered a great resource that you'll want to check out via Brian Johnson's BufferOverrun blog. Brian created a list of links using Microsoft Live Labs Listas, which breaks down the resources into the following categories: Digital Camera Resources, Photography Education and Techniques, Photo Software and Sharing, Photography Podcasts, and Photography User Groups and Events. The list features some Microsoft resources, like PhotoSynth and some non-Microsoft resources like Paint.NET's Wikibook. Even if you don't have time to peruse the whole list now, it's one of those gems that you find and just have to bookmark!
