I love remote controls! I love cameras! Therefore, I loved meeting with Troll Systems. Now all in HD, these sealed and pressurized units are built strong to hold up against any storm or fly attached to the bottom of a helicopter. The device is then controlled remotely from your office or studio to give you a spy-tech, birds-eye, top secret view of anywhere in the world. Love it.

New Video Series Shows the Tech in Virtual Earth

There’s a new video series available on our sister site, Channel 9, that delves into the tech behind Virtual Earth. The series is called “Behind the Maps,” and it will show you how the data and imagery in Virtual Earth goes through the whole process from camera to web and beyond. You’ll learn about the high-resolution cameras used – like the incredible UltraCam, how imagery is captured from a plane, how imagery is processed, and more. Of course, you’ll get to learn more about the Virtual Earth platform itself and its 3D control that delivers the imagery to your browser window. The first video is up now and will feature an up-close look at the UltraCam – check it out!

Yes, in fact, he DID say dodecahedron! The whiz kids over at Immersive Media have created a camera that records omnidirectional video. What's that? Well, omnidirectional digital video captures a full-motion spherical world, simultaneously in every direction. I could explain it further but it's easier for you to just watch the video :) Then- head on over to their site and take the immersive challenge. I can't wait till they team up with Z-Dome and Virtual Earth!

Teleprompters....putting the words right in my mouth

I'm going to be honest with you guys- the Teleprompter is one of my favorite inventions ever. Don't get me wrong, it's not always easy to make it appear as though you are not reading to the audience at home but once you've got it down it makes a world of difference. The problem has been that teleprompter cameras are expensive, bulky and time consuming to program- but not any more. Watch this clip and check out the first truly portable and SUPER simple teleprompter.

Upload Photos from Your Camera to the Web

The Eye-Fi Card is a breakthrough new product that everyone with a digital camera needs to know about. It's a 2GB SD card and wireless memory card that automatically uploads pictures from your digital camera or PC directly to the photo sharing site, photo printing site, blog, or social network of your choice. The Eye-Fi Card stores pictures like a regular SD card, up to 2 GB, and then uploads your photos automatically as soon as you return to your home network (or any open Wi-Fi network that doesn't require a login via an initial splash screen webpage...like Starbucks). Amazingly, the card already works with a myriad of services, including Kodak, Walmart, Snapfish, Photobucket, Facebook, Webshots, Phanfare, Shutterfly, flickr, TypePad, Vox, Sharpcast, and many more.

Through a sea of high-definition tv's at CES, I spied the Jasco booth with an interesting selection of home security devices on display including a solar powered camera that you can put outside your house without running a power line to it. Is it worth $300 to tell whether your late-night visitor is carrying a Papa John's box or an axe? I think so.

How to Pick a Good Point and Shoot

Hola world. I’m Scott and I’ve been helping to develop some of the pieces for 10. This is my first ‘on screen’ appearance though and I hope you find something you like here.

The basis of the piece was really straight forward. I wanted to go shopping for a point and shoot camera with someone who could help me evaluate what I would find. I’ve wanted a new camera since last Christmas’ blurry mementos and knew I could use some help. So, with a hidden camera, a guy who should know and a too cheap microphone, I went out and got one. And to the Tina and Laura fanboys – relax, they’ll be back tomorrow. :)
