What is Windows Live?

Catherine Heller is a technical evangelist for Windows Live.  Windows Live is a collection of end user offerings.  We have offerings you can use from a browser or services you may use from a mobile device.  It's all about bringing your personal digital world together.  In the next couple of days we will be bringing you some segments on specific services that are within the windows live collection.  Catherine explains how it all comes together here.

Is it that hard?

Windows Live = Search + Services (Live Search, Mail, etc.)

MSN = Content  (News, sports, entertainment, etc.)

That's really all there is. Why does it have to be so complicated? Windows Live is basically Microsoft's version of Google. Don't want to be so clean cut, but that's really how it is. I like Windows Live, but people really have to stop questioning 'what is Windows Live?'.

It's just search + services. Although Ballmer or somebody said it was services + software.

But in my definition, it really fits more of the line of search + services. Lots of search choices, and lots of services. MSN is a site to find content to look at. That's all guys.

quikboy, you missed in your simplified version the fact that Windows Live Services also support/host user generated content.  Also, Ray Ozzie announced last month that we will be seeing a Windows Live Suite of applications sometime this summer/fall.  So Steve B.  was accurate to state software+services as the future path for Microsoft.  The challenge for Microsoft is/will be to deliver local applications that are more compelling then if it were purely web based.  Not easy but thats how they differentiate themselves.

I remember when most of the features live offered were seperate services.  I think it's great how most of these features are falling under the Windows Live umbrella.  Live spaces and Live storage are especially great.  Of course, the greatest breakthrough will be the ability to manage it all on our mobile phones...and that isn't too far from being a reality.  Sweet.
